Here at Rubberbanditz, one of our goals is promote personal health and fitness wherever we can. This is how Carolina for Kibera fits in. CFK is currently working in the Kibera slum of Nairobi, Kenya. Its mission is to promote youth leaderships and ethnic and gender cooperation in Kibera through sports, young women’s empowerment, and community development. You can read more about what they do on their Web site.
We sponsored a set of bands to the group to promote personal health and fitness to both the kids and the greater community there. Leann Bankoski, the executive director, said they are “absolutely in LOVE with Rubberbanditz.” In an area with few training facilities and opportunities, CFK really got to test our Rubberbanditz mission of a truly mobile gym. Result: Friday staff training sessions!
Check out this video of the CFK and the bands in action, and head over to YouTube to see a few more!
CFK is now working on incorporating Rubberbanditz as a core piece of their health and wellness program for all sorts of participants – HIV positive people, at-risk girls, athletes and more.
We will continue to work together with them in the future and look forward to keeping you posted!Again, check out their Web site, where you can read more about everything they do and see how you can help.
