Rubberbanditz Interview on My Home Carolina

Rubberbanditz Interview on My Home Carolina

We recently had the pleasure of presenting our unique fitness system on My Carolina Today, a regional NBC affiliate.  Valonda Calloway was a terrific host as she stealthfully manuevered her way through a quick fitness band workout routine while amusing the audience with grace and wit.

We salute and thank NBC 17 for helping educate our beloved Carolinians on how to stay fit as a fiddle in minimal time and with minimal resources.  Stay tuned for more from your local media.

This is the first in a series of biweekly question-and-answer sessions with Durham social innovators conducted by Bull City Forward.

Two sentences about your enterprise:

We produce and sell a unique circular exercise band training system that I invented in the Peace Corps. The self-contained mobile gym provides a way to work out anywhere with minimal resources.

What good does it do for the world?

We build resistance band gyms in underserved communities and offer hands on training in the local community through children’s camps and Durham Parks and Recreation.

What led you to become an entrepreneur?

The bands initially just provided me with a practical way to exercise. When I did the numbers and realized I could make a living (hopefully someday) doing what I love while helping the world get healthier it became a no-brainer.

Why Durham (in three words)?

Adventure, Duke, love

One thing to do and not to do when starting a new enterprise:

Don’t think you will be able to maintain a regular social life.

Do surround yourself with an insightful community.

Favorite local place to celebrate good news

Our new outreach page is up!

We, Rubberbanditz, are frequently mentioning our commitment to promoting personal health and fitness on a grassroots level. What exactly are we doing, though?

Well now you can learn all about some of our current initiatives by heading over to the new outreach page. Along with telling you about Carolina for Kibera, which we talked about here on the blog a few weeks ago, we also tell you some about our work with Bridge II Sports and BounceBack Kids.

Hopefully this will give you a better idea about the outreach portion of our exercise RUBBERlution!

Hey bloggers – we are now on Open Sky!

Our brand new Open Sky store is officially up and running! If you are a blogger with an Open Sky store, we would love for you to carry our product! Shoot us an email for any info you’d like, or just to chat about the blogosphere. We are very excitied, and hope you are too!

Never heard of Open Sky? It is a way for bloggers to create their own online stores – suppliers (that’s us!) provide the products, and sellers (the bloggers) choose which products they would like to sell in their stores. That way bloggers are able to sell the products they know, love, and talk about on their blogs.

Here is what Open Sky says on their Web site:

OpenSky is a new way to shop, buy, and sell.

We give anyone with an audience — bloggers, editors, celebrities, social media mavens — the chance to discover amazing products in our ever-growing supplier network and effortlessly sell those products themselves. We take care of the heavy lifting by providing all the support and tools required to make every interaction easy, personal, and fun for everyone starting with the shopper.

The OpenSky platform fuels connection.

We empower suppliers, sellers and shop.

We are pumped to be a part of it, and we look forward to working with bloggers everywhere!

Check out the new green page!

You might have noticed some changes that are going on around the site. We are working hard to make everything better for you!

The latest change: Our green page!

You have probably already picked up on the green nature of the company. We try our best to keep it green, whether it is biking to work or designing trashless packaging. So go read about it!

And as always, we want to hear your suggestions. Shoot an email to info at rubberbanditz dot com with your ideas!

May the Fourth Be With You

Who said sitting by the pool or on the beach has to be a sloth’s paradise.  Don’t let the yearning for self-improvement wither away in the sun’s rays.  Burn calories while getting sun burned!

I’m celebrating my future grandparents in-laws’ 50th wedding anniversary in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico trying to muster enough energy to push myself away from the buffet table and work off the mountain of comida I just inhaled.  The 4th of July is the time to celebrate your independence and exercise your freedom.
